The Chirnside family’s property portfolio included Werribee Park Mansion, now one of Victoria’s most renowned tourist attractions. Thomas’ nephew, George Chirnside, owned the property that now houses the Chirnside Park Country Club from 1921 until his death in 1940.
Chirnside Park and Country Club Estate was originally part of the Shire of Lilydale, renamed and given its own postcode in the early 1970’s.
Chirnside Park Country Club (CPCC) together with its sister development, Clifton Springs, were designed following extensive research into similar sites such as Florida’s North Palm Beach and the Pymble Club near Sydney.
The current CPCC golf course was originally designed by leading golf course architect Sam Berriman who was also responsible for designing the courses at Huntingdale, Keysborough and Sale.
Completed around 1966, this Chirnside Park site originally offered a nine-hole public golf course with the original Chirnside family residence used as the sales and marketing office.
The site’s original developers, Community Centres Pty Ltd, was responsible for forming the estate and the country club, with Wilmore Real Estate Agents appointed to assist in the sale of the housing lots.
As more of the residential estate was sold, the back nine holes were built and CPCC officially purchased the golf course and associated facilities from Community Centres Pty Ltd in 1974.
To complete the recreational facilities, the country club and tennis courts were added, and in 1984 the first of the bowling greens opened to the public.
CPCC has always been community focused, providing a range of facilities and activities for all members of the area and surrounds.
